about

This is the first collection of works released by Mains spike Music as a Retrospective spanning a 30 year period from 1989-2019

Diamanda Galas - "Emotionally pulverising".

BBC Introducing - "Taking an instrument to it's furthest capabilities. This is something else entirely".

Claire Hooper / Unclaimed Baggage - “Benedict Heaney can create music that takes you places you haven’t visited since childhood and places you never want to go to again! Whether his music is thought out and well rehearsed or improvised on the spot, it is always brilliant”.

Nightshift Magazine - “This is music you could play in a darkened room, when you're on your own, in the middle of the night… and see what sort of nightmares you get afterwards. The background noise to all those dreams you have about being pursued by strange wraith-like aliens in an abandoned factory”.

Label Boss, Dave Claridge writes:
"I met Ben over 20 years ago at a gig I was playing in Manchester amidst a fog of dry ice, very loud, very heavy psychedelic rock music. More recently we reconnected thanks to our good friend Carl and today I am so pleased to be presenting this retrospective of his work spanning 30 years.

Ben is a World class virtuoso on violin but his recorded material also includes choral, drone, electronic, EDM and minimal techno. It really is an eclectic mix and experimental may be a wild understatement.

Some of it is just breathtakingly beautiful. Some of it sounds like an apocalyptic end of the World, space and time.

The first material Ben ever sent me I listened to in my car on the M6 travelling North and, to be honest, at times I couldn't tell which of the ungodly sonic apparitions were emanating from my speakers and which were coming off the speeding, screeching lorries and rumbling tarmac.

All the sounds from that particular recording came from a single Fender 1958 electric violin! A violin fed into fuzz, distortion, octaver, delays and looping pedals. It really was a journey I'll never forget and I felt like I'd lived through some kind of futuristic, trippy disaster movie by the time I stumbled out of the car at my destination.

This album definitely won't be for everyone but it's certainly an immersive and emotional experience. Have a listen..."
